Today, we put out an app release that tries to simplify how we shop, interact with and buy a lot of things that are in our vicinity. We have no qualms about the fact that our app doesn’t take man into space or make the world a better place (we will leave those jokes for Silicon Valley). What we do hope is that for five minutes in a week, our users can open the app and do one of the dreariest chores with a smile on their face because the experience didn’t completely suck. In that hope we wanted to put out an app design that connected more with the world around us- that didn’t worry about what is material or flat or skeuomorphic but one that is decidedly human. So our app now has touches of our real handiwork- art at the heart of a tech company. The icons, the placeholders, the images that are featured have all been hand drawn to showcase that behind all the fancy stuff we code and animate and all the effort that goes to devolve technology into the very busiest or mundane activities we do, the ingenuity and effort to make it possible is very human. Just like with all human effort, the mighty hand will slip and like the banana that is unable to ripen without forming a few dark spots, our efforts will not hide our botched attempts at being just right. We hope you enjoy the imperfection.
